Bulukumba, (1/9) – BPS-Statistic of Bulukumba Regency recorded a deflation of 0.03 percent (m-to-m) in August 2025, as the Consumer Price Index (CPI) dropped from 107.97 in July 2025 to 107.94 in August 2025. A similar condition occurred in August 2024, where there was also a deflation of 0.03 percent. On an annual basis, there was an inflation of 2.87 percent, and on a calendar year basis, inflation reached 2.19 percent.

The largest contributor to monthly inflation was the education expenditure group, which experienced an inflation of 1.35 percent, contributing 0.02 percent to inflation. The food, beverages, and tobacco group saw an inflation of 0.15 percent in August 2025, contributing 0.05 percent to inflation. The largest contributor to monthly deflation was the recreation, sports, and culture expenditure group, which saw a deflation of 0.76 percent, contributing 0.01 percent to deflation. The clothing and footwear group also experienced a deflation of 0.64 percent in August 2025, contributing 0.05 percent to deflation. In August 2025, out of the 11 expenditure groups, only 4 groups experienced inflation, while the other 7 groups experienced deflation.

The commodities that predominantly contributed to monthly inflation in August 2025 were fresh shrimp and shallots, with each contributing 0.04 percent to inflation. Rice was the third-largest contributor to inflation, with a contribution of 0.03 percent. Other commodities among the top 10 contributors to inflation included higher education, machine-made clove cigarettes (SKM), tomatoes, katamba fish, moringa leaves, bananas, and skipjack/scale fish. The commodity that restrained monthly inflation in August 2025 was bird’s eye chili, contributing 0.08 percent deflation. This was followed by household fuel and mackerel, each contributing 0.03 percent deflation. Other commodities in the top 10 deflation contributors included sweet corn, squid, broiler chicken, anchovies, eggplant, milkfish, and spinach.

On an annual basis, Bulukumba’s year-on-year (y-o-y) inflation for August 2025 stood at 2.87 percent. Inflation occurred due to price increases in ten expenditure groups: food, beverages, and tobacco (5.29 percent); housing, water, electricity, and household fuels (0.37 percent); household equipment, appliances, and routine maintenance (1.68 percent); health (0.66 percent); transportation (0.94 percent); information, communication, and financial services (0.05 percent); recreation, sports, and culture (0.32 percent); education (2.53 percent); food and beverage/restaurants (1.76 percent); and personal care and other services (7.54 percent). Meanwhile, the group with the largest index decrease was clothing and footwear, with a decrease of 1.05 percent.

The commodities that dominated as contributors to annual inflation in August 2025 were rice, with a contribution of 0.71 percent, followed by gold jewelry with a contribution of 0.62 percent. Other contributors to annual inflation included flying fish/scad, shallots, tomatoes, skipjack/scale fish, machine-made clove cigarettes (SKM), cooking oil, coconut, and eggs. The commodity that restrained annual inflation in August 2025 was bird’s eye chili, contributing 0.13 percent deflation, followed by tamarind with a contribution of 0.10 percent deflation. Other commodities among the top 10 deflation contributors to annual inflation were potatoes, fresh shrimp, household fuel, squid, broiler chicken, bananas, sweet corn, and wafers.

By region, of the 8 districts/cities in South Sulawesi Province that calculate inflation, 5 experienced deflation on a monthly basis, while 3 others experienced inflation. On an annual basis, all eight regions in South Sulawesi experienced inflation, with the highest annual inflation recorded in Pare-Pare City at 4.46 percent and the lowest in Palopo City at 2.75 percent.
